Goal

The Ad Hoc Committee on Noise (Noise Committee) was created by the Town of Dewey Beach Commissioners to review the current Noise Ordinance and make recommendations for adjustments, enhancements, and any modifications as deemed reasonable and prudent, no later than the Spring of 2012.

Objectives

Review existing and past noise ordinances in Dewey Beach;
Review Delaware State Noise Abatement Law to avoid conflicting regulations with our local ordinance;
Review other Delaware beach jurisdictions noise ordinances (Rehoboth Beach, Fenwick Island, Bethany Beach, Lewes);
Review noise complaints filed with the Dewey Beach Police over the past several years and how complaints are handled;
Review methods and approaches in measuring noise levels made by humans, live or recorded music, and limitations, if any;
Hold public meeting(s) to ask for input regarding noise, and suggestions to improve upon limiting noise levels, so as not to disturb the peace and tranquility of residents, property owners, tourists, existing businesses, and adjacent communities;
Prepare recommendations for the Town Commissioners to consider.
