Alderman Court 36 Overview

The Alderman Court shall have jurisdiction and cognizance of all breaches of the peace and other offenses committed within the corporate limits of the Town of Dewey Beach so far as to arrest and hold for bail, fine and/or imprison offenders for offenses under its Municipal Code, certain Title 11 misdemeanor offenses, and Title 21 traffic violations; to uphold and enforce the Charter of the Town of Dewey Beach and ordinances duly enacted by the Commissioners of Dewey Beach and to carry into effect all orders of the Commissioners of Dewey Beach made pursuant to any law of this state.

The Alderman and the Assistant Alderman are judges nominated by the Governor, confirmed by the Senate and are under the jurisdiction of the Chief Justice of the State of Delaware.  The Alderman and the Assistant Alderman may, in addition to any fine or term of imprisonment permitted to be assessed or imposed, impose and collect court costs as prescribed in the Dewey Beach Municipal Code.


Alderman Court 2020 Summer Schedule

The Alderman Court is currently open only for previously scheduled arraignments, trials, and hearings.  Due to Covid-19, there will be no walk-ins or in-person appeals of parking tickets in Alderman Court 36.  Parking ticket appeals may only be made on-line until further notice.

If you have a proceeding scheduled by the Court, you will be required to submit to health screenings, adhere to social distancing guidelines, and wear a face covering/mask before entering the courtroom.

All parking ticket inquiries and fines are handled by the town Parking Authority or Code Enforcement

The Court Clerk will be available for telephone inquires every Monday and Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.  Due to Covid-19, the Court Clerk‘s office is not be open to the public until further notice


The court now accepts online payments through ePayment provided 

by the Delaware Criminal Justice Information System (DELJIS).

Requests for court records should be submitted by mail or fax to: Alderman Court 36, 105 Rodney Ave., Dewey Beach, DE 19971.  Fax (302) 227-6366. There is a $7.50 processing fee.

You must provide the following information:

  • Name
  • Date of Birth
  • Case Number or Ticket Number (if you do not have, provide reason for the ticket and date issued)
  • Credit card information or a check made payable to Town of Dewey Beach for $7.50.
  • Your signature. If you do not provide a signature, your request will not be processed.
  • Address or fax number to which you would like the records to be sent.




Requests for continuance must be submitted in writing no later than 48 hours before your scheduled hearing. Each party involved is allowed only (1) continuance.
