TOWN OF DEWEY BEACH  ---  MUNICIPAL ELECTION 2019

Notice of Solicitation of Candidates

5:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2019

The Town of Dewey Beach, Sussex County, Delaware will hold its Annual Municipal Election on Saturday, September 21, 2019. Let this be notice to those persons with intention to file for a Commissioner’s seat that they must file no later than 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2019.

 

Term of Office – Two (2) Years – Beginning September 2019 through September 2021.

Number of Elected Seats – Three (3).

 

Qualifications

Each Commissioner shall be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.  A candidate must not have been convicted of a felony, must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age on or before the date of the election, and must have been a qualified elector in the Town of Dewey Beach for at least one (1) year prior to the date of the Election.

 

Not less than two (2) of the Commissioners shall be designated Resident Commissioners.  A Resident Commissioner shall have the following qualifications:

1)  be a bona fide resident and domiciliary of the Town; and

2)  own real estate within the Town, or

be both a settlor/creator and trustee of a valid trust to which real property which is located within the Town has been conveyed which conveyance is recorded in the Office of the Recorder of Deeds in and for Sussex County, or

be a leaseholder of real estate in the Town under a valid lease of a term of five (5) years or more.  Any person applying as a leaseholder candidate pursuant to this subsection will be required to include a copy of a valid lease with his or her candidate filing.

 

Other Commissioners must have the qualifications of a Resident Commissioner as defined above or

be an owner of real estate within the Town, or

be both a settlor/creator and trustee of a valid trust to which real property which is located within Town has been conveyed which conveyance is recorded in the Office of the Recorder of Deeds in and for Sussex County, or

be a leaseholder of real estate within the Town under a valid lease of a term of five (5) years or more.  Any person applying as leaseholder candidate pursuant to this subsection will be required to include a copy of a valid lease with his or her candidate filing.

 

The Commissioner with the title of “Mayor of the Town of Dewey Beach” must be qualified as a Resident Commissioner. If any one of the Commissioners shall, during his/her term of office, fail to continue to be qualified as stated above, he/she shall ipso facto vacate his/her office. The Commissioners shall be the judges of the qualifications of the members.

 

Those persons voting Absentee may receive an Affidavit for Absentee Ballot by contacting Town Hall at
(302) 227-6363 Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., or by downloading the Affidavit from the Town’s Website at www.townofdeweybeach.com.  Completed affidavits may be submitted by mail or hand-delivery to: Town of Dewey Beach, 105 Rodney Avenue, Dewey Beach, DE 19971 or by facsimile to (302) 227-8319 or by scan/e-mail to
joyce@townofdeweybeach.com.  All absentee ballot affidavits must be received no later than 12:00 Noon on Friday, September 20, 2019.

 

Those persons with intentions to file as candidates should contact the Town Manager’s Office located at 105 Rodney Avenue, Dewey Beach, DE 19971. Filings of an individual’s intent to run for office will only be accepted in letter form or other written certification.  A person’s letter of intent must be accompanied by a completed “Candidate Filing Form”.  Both must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2019.
