Mike brings a diverse background to the role of Commissioner. He is currently the owner of two growing small businesses that serve Sussex County and the surrounding area. Prior to that, Mike was the Executive Director for Ocean Champions, the country's only ocean-focused political organization. In that capacity, Mike helped elect dozens of U.S. Senators and Congressmen (both Democrats and Republicans), helped pass major pro-ocean legislation and helped defeat some bills that would have harmed the ocean. Before Ocean Champions, Mike was a Vice-President in Fannie Mae's Multifamily Division, where he designed, built and grew new organizations across a range of disciplines, including Strategy, Marketing, Financial Engineering and Operations. Mike has an MBA from Duke University, and a Bachelors in Economics from Washington and Lee University. He serves on the Board of Directors for Ocean Champions, and has served on the Board of the National Aquarium in Baltimore, Chairing their Conservation Committee. Mike lives in Lewes with his wife Mary, daughters Summer and Sky, and their dog Max, but the family still spends summers in their Dewey condo.  During weekends in the warmer months, Mike can often be found on the beach on Rodney Avenue, where he welcomes anyone coming up to discuss their ideas, concerns or questions about Dewey Beach. Year-round if you'd like to reach Mike, please send an email and he will respond within a day or two.

Commissioner Courtney Riordan

(302) 258-5358

Email me.

Courtney Riordan and his wife Pat have been year-round residents in Dewey Beach for the past 16 years. Prior to that time they vacationed in Rehoboth Beach and Dewey beach for 25 years. They especially like living in Dewey Beach because of the distinctive way of life it offers to people of differing interests and ages who are drawn to the area because its beautiful beach and bay access. Courtney served as a Town Commissioner during the years 2002 – 2005 and as Mayor from 2005 -2006. He was again elected Commissioner in 2012 as continues in that capacity today. His main goal in acting as Commissioner is to maintain a balance among the major competing interests that can put risk the value and enjoyment that each derives from the activities offered by the Town’s natural and recreational resources. After serving in the US Army for 3 years, he got educated and had a 28 year career as a researcher and ultimately Office Director in the US EPA. His wife Pat retired from a long career with George Mason University spending her last 10 years as Dean of Admissions. Now she runs a major non- profit Cat rescue and neuter program that looks after cats in Dewey Beach and the surrounding area. Together they love the small town resort character of Dewey Beach and are committed to its protection.
