YOGA ON THE BEACH KICKS OFF 2012 SEASON IN DEWEY BEACH

 

            Dewey Beach, DE (June 11, 2012)—Morning yoga classes for summer 2012 are underway on the beach at Swedes Street, each weekday morning except Wednesday, from

8:00 a.m.-9:00 a.m., Dewey Beach Mayor Diane Hanson announced.

 

            Hanson said one dollar of the $11 dollar class fee will be donated to the Dewey Beach lifeguards. The classes, being held on the beach at Swedes Street, are being offered by Kaya Wellness Centerof Rehoboth Beach.

 

            Mayor Hanson said, “Whether you’re preparing for the day ahead, winding down from yesterday, or just interested in improving your fitness, yoga at Dewey Beach could be just the tonic you need.”

 

            And beach yoga is not just for early risers:  Every Monday evening beginning on July 2, at 6:00 p.m., yoga classes will also be offered on the beach between Swedes and Saulsbury Streets by Terry Gardner of Rehoboth Beach Yoga Center

 

            For both morning and evening yoga, participants should bring $11 cash, a towel and a bottle of water.  Parking is free in permit parking spaces before 10:00 a.m. every day and after 5:00 p.m. on Mondays.

 

            Yoga on the Beach is another program that has earned Dewey Beach a reputation as a family friendly town for fun on the beach. The town also offers free Monday night movies and Wednesday night bonfires, both on the beach in front of the Dewey Beach Lifesaving Station on Dagsworthy Street, as well as summer programs for youth through the Dewey Beach Patrol.

 

In 2011 Dewey Beach was awarded Superstar Beach status by the Natural Resources Defense Council for the consistent cleanliness of its ocean water.  Incorporated in 1981,Dewey’s year-round resident population numbers 341, a figure that approaches nearly 30,000 in summer months.
