In 2018, the Town of Dewey Beach began our fundraising effort to install beach access mats on each dune entrance. AccessMat® Beach Accessibility Mats are an ABA/ADA compliant accessibility system that has been specifically developed for use in permanent or temporary recreation applications. AccessMat® is a portable and removable rollout access route that provides easy beach access for wheelchairs and strollers, but also makes entering the beach easier and safer for individuals of all abilities.
To offset the cost of the beach access mat project, we created the Adopt-a-Dune program. This program allows individuals and organizations to sponsor a section of one of our beach access mats, and even personalize their own panel with a message, design, or logo of their choice. We also allow sponsors to choose which street entrance they'd like their mat to be installed. Street availability is on a first come, first serve basis. If there is any problem with your design or location preference, a staff member from Town Hall will contact you to review your options.
Installation time varies - designs will be submitted for production and printing, which may have a turnaround time of up to 4 weeks. As soon as the mat is delivered to Dewey Beach Town Hall, installation will be scheduled as soon as possible.
You will be charged $1,000 for a 4 ft. x 2 ft panel to be placed for 3 years from date of installation. This cost covers creation, customization, shipping, and installation.
